A Statement from Givat Haviva Regarding the Current Unrest in Israel

Givat Haviva calls on Israel's Jewish and Arab citizens, in particular, the residents of the mixed cities and our neighbors in the nearby localities, to avoid any mutual harassment that harms the delicate fabric of our sheared communities. We appeal to these residents to take action to calm the situation as much as possible, and we ask the police to maintain maximum restraint in their dealings with the public.

Givat Haviva calls on the leaders of neighboring Arab and Jewish communities to once again build up direct communication between one another in the coming days, and to work together to strengthen coordination and prevent any further escalation - there is never any justification for harming innocent civilians.

We call both the Israeli an Palestinian leadership to return to the negotiating table, with the goal of forging a sustainable agreement, based on the right of both peoples to self-determination, within the framework of two states, side-by-side.

There will not be peace, security or prosperity in our region as long as occupation, incitement, exclusion and ongoing human rights violations continue. Both of our peoples are paying a heavy price for the actions of an extreme minority that is not interested in peace or compromise. The international community must act immediately to create a political horizon that will bring a just end to the conflict.

Givat Haviva, experienced and well-tried in this field, continues to advocate and act for the principles of dialogue, understanding and inclusion of all segments of Israeli society. We have worked for decades to promote the common interests that serve Jews and Arabs alike, and please rest assure that we will not falter in our mission now. That I promise you. We are working hard behind the scenes and we will be sending you more specific updates in the days and weeks ahead.

I wish you well and thank you for supporting Givat Haviva through thick and thin, even when the situation can be so disheartening. Our work continues.
