Givat Haviva facilities in Israel

Givat Haviva facilities
The specified selection of facilities represents a selection of the components of Givat Haviva. There are currently over 35 different projects being carried out by Givat Haviva. Further information on individual centers and projects is available for download under Materials.

The Jewish-Arab Center for Peace

Due to existing social inequalities between the Arab and Jewish population in Israel and to promote tolerance and coexistence, Givat Haviva founded the Jewish-Arab Center for Peace in 1963. The focus here is on getting to know each other and getting to know each other, especially among young people. As a reflection of this idea, all workplaces are equally occupied by Jews and Arabs. It also works with people and organizations in the Palestinian Territories. This center received the UNESCO Peace Prize in 2001.

Art center

Givat Haviva's art center is unique beyond the larger cities in Israel. It offers children and adults the opportunity not only to consume art, but also to become creative themselves. At the same time, the art center is also a place for intercultural encounters. In the projects of the center, Arab and Jewish young people learn about artistic work and get to know one another through joint activities.

Yad YaAri

The archive and research center of the youth movement Haschomer Hazair deals with the history of the Jewish youth association and its Eastern European roots as well as with the current situation of the Israeli kibbutz movement that has emerged from it.

Moreshet

Another research and documentation center of immense importance is the Mordechai Anielevich Holocaust Study and Research Center (Moreshet). It is one of the most important and large institutions of its kind in Israel, holds a vast number of original documents from survivors of the Holocaust and is therefore an incomparable source for research into the Shoah. Moreshet's focus is the Jewish resistance against fascism.

Language courses

Language is an indispensable tool on the way to mutual understanding. Almost the entire Arab population speaks Hebrew, but it is not conducive to equal dialogue and coexistence on equal terms if only one side speaks the language of the other. Givat Haviva encourages Jewish Israelis to learn Arabic and provides the necessary infrastructure and trained teachers.

Peace Library

The Sarah and Yaacov Eshel Peace Library has united three different libraries under one roof since 2001, which until then existed separately on the Givat Haviva campus: The central collection primarily contains literature on sociological and psychological topics as well as Zionism, the Land of Israel, the kibbutz movement, the Israeli labor movement and various Judaica. The library of the Jewish-Arab Peace Center focuses on contributions to the Near and Middle East. In the Moreshet Library there are numerous books, reports by contemporary witnesses and original documents on the Holocaust. The library thus holds a total of over 60,000 publications and more than 400 periodicals. Most of them are electronically cataloged and accessible to the public.

The Givat Haviva campus

The central campus of Givat Haviva covers around 15 hectares and is located on the Sharon Plain in central Israel, almost exactly between Tel-Aviv and Haifa. On campus there are sleeping facilities for around 400 people, the various facilities and departments of the center, rooms for seminars, conferences and language courses, the art gallery, the library as well as various sports facilities and a swimming pool.
